Flights to Palma (PMI)
Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is one of the busiest in Europe. Over 60 UK airports offer direct flights — practically every major airport flies there in summer. Flight time from London is 2h 20min. Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, TUI and BA all operate routes. Prices are competitive on most routes; compare early.
Car Hire — Essential for Exploring
To get the most out of Majorca, you need a car. The best beaches, mountain villages and viewpoints are inaccessible by public transport. All major rental companies have desks at the airport. Book online in advance — on-the-day rates can be double. Budget €25–70/day depending on season and category.
Bus (TIB)
The TIB bus network connects Palma to most resort towns and many villages. Useful and cheap, but frequencies are low outside peak season and some areas aren't served. Good for Alcudia, Sóller and Pollença if you're based in Palma.
Train: Palma to Sóller
Majorca has a charming vintage train service from Palma through the Tramuntana mountains to Sóller — a tourist attraction in its own right. Not a practical way to get around the island, but a wonderful experience to book in advance.
💡 Cap de Formentor road restrictions
In July and August, the road to Cap de Formentor is closed to private vehicles during peak hours. Access is by shuttle bus from Port de Pollença. Plan your visit accordingly — early morning or late afternoon visits are best.
