North Majorca — Alcúdia & Pollença
Alcúdia · Playa de Muro · Pollença · Port de Pollença · Cap de Formentor
In a nutshell: For many travellers, the north is the best part of Majorca. It combines the island's finest beach (11km of Playa de Muro), two of its most beautiful medieval towns, and the awe-inspiring Formentor peninsula. Favoured by discerning travellers, families and those who want the complete Majorca experience.
Areas of North Majorca
ðŸ–ï¸ Playa de Muro & Playa de Alcúdia
Together, these two beaches form an 11km unbroken stretch of white sand — the longest beach in Majorca and one of the finest in the Mediterranean. Blue Flag awarded, turquoise shallow water and a wide, spacious beach. Bordered by a protected wetland (S'Albufera) making it one of the most naturally stunning beaches in Spain.
🰠Alcúdia Old Town
One of the best-preserved medieval walled towns in Majorca. 14th-century city walls still stand intact, enclosing a maze of narrow lanes, whitewashed buildings, a Roman amphitheatre and an excellent Sunday market. Worth at least half a day of exploration. 10 minutes' drive from the beach.
ðŸ›ï¸ Pollença & Port de Pollença
Pollença town is perhaps the most beautiful in Majorca — a steep hilltop calvary staircase (365 steps), a lovely weekly market, art galleries and excellent restaurants. Port de Pollença, 6km away, has a long sandy beach, a yacht-filled harbour and a relaxed, sophisticated atmosphere popular with artists and intellectuals.
â›°ï¸ Cap de Formentor
The dramatic headland at the very tip of the north, often described as one of the most beautiful views in Spain. A narrow mountain road winds through pine forests to a lighthouse perched above vertical cliffs. The Formentor beach (accessible by boat or road) is another of Majorca's legendary spots — turquoise water backed by golden sand and pine trees.
🌿 S'Albufera Natural Park
Majorca's largest wetland reserve lies between Playa de Muro and Alcúdia. Over 200 species of birds including herons, flamingos and kingfishers. Free entry, open year-round — ideal for birdwatchers and nature walks, especially in spring and autumn.
